How to Match Orange-Peel Texture on a Drywall Repair
Test the spray pattern first and avoid the obvious patch-shaped halo.
Flatten the repair before texturing
Texture will not hide a high patch or heavy mud edge. Finish and inspect the repair first.
Identify the size of the existing pattern
Fine, medium, and heavy orange peel require different material flow and spray settings.
Protect more area than expected
Overspray travels. Mask nearby walls, trim, fixtures, floors, and furniture before testing the sprayer.
Practice away from the wall
Use scrap drywall or cardboard to adjust distance, pressure, and material flow before spraying the repair.
Blend beyond the exact patch edge
A light, irregular blend usually looks more natural than stopping texture at a sharp square boundary.
Prime before judging the final match
Primer creates a more even surface and makes it easier to evaluate the repaired area before the finish paint.
